The
Calf Scramble is one of the most exciting
events at the rodeo that is open to contestants
from the entire state. Contestants race
after calves that are turned loose in the
rodeo arena trying to catch and return one
in halter back to the designated area. Successful
scrambles are given a $1,000 certificate
to go out and purchase a show heifer to
bring back and compete for champion heifer
at the following year’s show. Over
the course of the year the student gains
knowledge on financial responsibility, caring
for and feeding the heifer. For most participants,
this is an opportunity for them to learn
about the livestock industry and start their
own investments within the industry.
